LIBERTYVILLE ACTION TEAM Minutes
August 25, 2008
The meeting was called to order by Shawn Holcomb, President, at 7:05 p.m.
In attendance
We broke our record for attendance at an ACTION team . We had 20 people present. They were Megan Smithburg, Nikki Metz, Karen Blakley, Carrie Engle, Shawn Holcomb, Bev Nelson, Renee’ Messer, Becky Hanna, Kevin Hanna, Amanda Beasley, Carol Wells, Jennifer Hammel, Stephany Harward, Christi Welsh, Sarah Godwin, Patty Harward, Lisa DeMitchell, Crystal Bruce, Debi Farrell and Sue McCracken.
Role Call
The question for role call was to introduce yourself, tell about your family, and to describe one thing your child likes about school.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes were read by Renee’ Messer from the April 2008 meeting. Bev Nelson motioned for approval and Shawn Holcomb seconded and the minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s report
Patty Harward read the minutes. Our beginning balance was $1,777.13. The ending balance as of 8/25/08 is $284.32. The savings account balance is $1,654.34. Carrie Engle motioned for approval of treasurer’s report and Bev Nelson seconded the motion and it was approved.
Old business
Shawn Holcomb and Bev Nelson spoke of the accomplishments by the ACTION team for last year. Some of these included the Halloween carnival, Hy-Vee shopping days, Family Movie Night, and various fund raisers.
Sue McCracken asked that if anyone had ideas for the new website to email her. Some suggestions that arouse during the meeting were that dates be put on everything and the teacher link needs to be worked on.
NEW business
• Hy-Vee Fundraiser days will be Thanksgiving and Easter this school year as reported by Patty Harward.
• Election results are to keep the same as last year. This was seconded by Amanda Beasley. This motion was passed and reads as follows:
§ President – Shawn Holcomb
§ Vice President (or co presidents) – Bev Nelson
§ Secretary – Kristi Nystrom
§ Treasurer- Carrie Engle along with Patty Harward as co treasurer.
§ Christi Welsh said she would be willing to audit the books this year.
• Rod and Bev Nelson have agreed to be the Vertical Team representatives for one more year.
• Carol Wells thanked the ACTION team for all they do for the school and teachers at Libertyville.
• Sue McCracken voiced fundraiser opportunities. One opportunity that she became aware of was cell phones for money. It doesn’t cost the school anything. Just mail in old cell phones and in return they send money back to the school. Sue said to check out this website and we will discuss it at next meeting. The website is www.PaceButler.com.
• Box tops , Hy-Vee smiles were all discussed as well as other possible fundraisers. A soup BINGO night was mentioned and is an idea for meetings coming up in the future.
• Red Wheel fundraiser will be held on September 18th and will last a couple of weeks. Delivery will be September 28th. If anyone would like to volunteer to unload the trucks that day please contact Patty at the school.
• Shawn Holcomb spoke about the Halloween carnival planned for October 25th, 2008. She asked that members think about it and it will be discussed at the next meeting.
• Patty Harward and Sue McCracken brought up ideas about shirts. Sue brought up the idea of fleece vests or jackets. Patty will find out cost to do so. We still have quite a few shirts so if you haven’t gotten yours, get it now.
• Amanda Beasley and Sarah Godwin told about the date to set on your calendars for installation of playground equipment. The date is set for September 19-21. If you can help please get a hold of either Amanda or Sarah.
• Sue McCracken discussed safe community project that is coming up. Mayor Michelle Stump and Sue have talked about safe houses in Libertyville. If there are any volunteers to be a safe house please contact Michelle Stump at 693-4002. To be a safe house you must be home during the day.
• The fall reading Incentive was discussed. The theme will be a ZOO theme. They are thinking of having a kickoff that includes a trip to the Des Moines Zoo. This will be discussed at the next meeting. Sue did say that she would like ACTION team to pay for the students’ admissions to the zoo. Bev Nelson motioned for approval and Kristi Welsh seconded the motion and it was approved. Sue will find out cost by next meeting.
• Please tell Mrs. Partridge she did a great job on the garden at the school. She worked hard on it over the summer.
• Shawn Holcomb wanted to know if the swings that were taken out last year were going to be replaced. Sue did not know what they were going to do and would be discussed at a later date.

Motion to adjourn was made at 8:15 p.m. and was passed unanimously.
