School Carnival Celebrates "At-Home" Reading Success
by Joe Carr
Our students were rewarded for their participation in the “At-Home Reading Program” during October. We’ve had nearly 100% participation in our reading program and our Parent Group hosted a carnival at school the afternoon of November 5. Students participated in games such as the “Touchdown Toss”, the “Can Wham”, the “Duck Pond”, and the “Grand Prize Game”, among others. They also had opportunities for face painting, tattoos, and a chance to get their fortune told. Top that off with pizza and it was a fun afternoon. A huge thanks to our parent group for sponsoring this event and to all of our volunteers. Our “At-Home” Reading Program will run until the end of April. We hope our families will maintain the momentum created during October. We will have another school-wide incentive in February, and teachers will have smaller classroom incentives for the other months. The purpose of this program is to establish a habit of regular reading at home, which supports our goal of having literate students. A little bit every night will pay big dividends in the long run.
